I Hear Your Whisper

I Hear Your Whisper is a sculptural open book blending natural materials and encaustic techniques to explore memory and guidance. The left page features a birch bark canvas with a monochrome encaustic portrait, surrounded by layered torn paper and translucent textures that evoke the passage of time. On the right page, fragments of printed text peek through curled ribbons and textured papers, punctuated by a compass illustration symbolizing navigation and direction. Incorporating dried, painted leaves and encaustic stamping of swallows as guiding spirits, the piece honors lasting impressions—those emotional, physical, and spiritual marks that endure beyond fading memories. Inspired by memories of my Nana Mary, and Melissa M Lackman’s legacy, the artwork reflects a journey toward finding one’s inner compass and the quiet strength given by mentorship and connection. Through its layered surfaces, it meditates on memory, exploration, and the ongoing dialogue between past and present.
